Protein Binding [pb] refers to proteins that engage in non-catalytic binding with other proteins. By definition, the binding must be transient, i.e. permanent oligomeric interfaces are excluded. HotPatch's statistical parameters for protein binding are derived by training on a set of structures in this class.

In training on their known binding sites, the sites were defined by

• Annotations as residues involved in binding in the SFR Database, which were mostly obtained from the literarture.
• Proximity of 4Å to another protein (if present in the structure), or to a known surrogate of the protein (e.g. inhibitor).

Size of training set: 146 structures (145 with hydrogens added, for electrostatics & neural networks).
