About Me

Since forever I've known that when I grow up, I would like to be an astronaut. You've made it this far, wander further south and you might find out about some of my many many hobbies.

These days I spend a lot of time studying. As a post-doc that is only natural. However, when not glued to my computer I have lots and lots of hobbies to keep me human, some more "normal" than others.

Principal among my hobbies comes "clowning around." In college I was a member of Students Against Gravity (goes along well with the Astronaut thing). SAG was a juggling troupe. Juggling in space is probably not thrilling - but I bet I could set some major numbers records on the moon!

The best clowns are also balloon artists. Although the squeaking is annoying to labmates, most others find it amusing. A good clown should also know a bit of magic. I'm not yet a master magician - but I'm working on it. Don't be surprised if I ask you to "Pick a Card." If you are in LA - I highly recommend catching the show in the big room at Wizards or the small room at Magicopolis. If you *can* sneak into the magic castle.

In addition to clowning around, I always enjoy a good read and for those of you other bookworms out there - please do send me your recommendations. Mine are here. Most of the books on the list are prose - but I am something of a poetry addict and compose bad poetry when the mood strikes me. I've been known to write essays and bits of fiction from time to time as well.

My mom sent me to piano lessons forever and I still love to play. When stressed out I usually find refuge banging on my piano or absorbed in my stereo.

In case you hadn't guessed yet, I do enjoy art quite a bit also. I worked as a graphic designer for many years and still make pretty pictures, either on my computer, or with water colours or pastels when the mood strikes me.

Most of my life I've enjoyed athletics (prerequisite of being an astronaut). Since coming to LA I have been an aspiring Triathelete. I'm not much of a swimmer anymore - but I love to run and bike. You might also find me playing Volleyball, Tennis, Raquetball, or Softball (thanks to Rob for the softball) Scouting has gotten me addicted to hiking, camping and backpacking as well.

Life is full of exciting adventures. Pick just about anything and odds are I will enjoy it.
