Crystallization Trials
The Crystallization Facility uses commercial kits to set up screens for UCLA and outside users. We use a Mosquito nanoliter pipetting robot to create hanging and sitting drop crystallization experiments. For initial screening we typically recommend a three-drop pattern that varies protein:chemical concentration to increase the chance of obtaining crystals. After a samples is dropped off it usually takes around one hour to setup eight trays.
Things you need to utilize the Crystallization Facility services
40ul of protein per tray you wish to set up.
Signed billing form.
Any special intructions/cautions about the protein.
Arrange for a pickup/dropoff for your trays.
If you want to guarantee your sample gets processed in a timely manner, please make an appointment.
